Dear Parents and Students,

 

I am excited to announce that we will be starting our DCIS Recorder Group next week! This group will work on playing together as an ensemble, note reading, rhythm, and good technique for playing the recorder. The DCIS Recorder Group will perform at the World Music Spring Concert on April 13^th, 2016.  Recorder Group is only open to 4^th and 5^th grade students at this time. Because this is a performing group, attendance is crucial for the performance to be successful. The DCIS Recorder Group will rehearse 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/7. These are all Fridays after school, with the exception of 4/7 which is a Thursday. There will also be a dress rehearsal in the auditorium after school on 4/12 from 4-4:30. Students must be picked up at 4:30.  All parents must sign their kids out when they pick them up, unless you sign the attached written consent form giving permission for your children to sign themselves out. We have very limited rehearsal time. Therefore, it will be necessary for your child to practice their parts at home. If your child does not already have his/her own recorder, you will need to purchase one. I am able to order these recorders for a discounted price of $5.

 

If your child is interested in playing in the DCIS recorder group, please return the permission slip and the emergency contact information form as soon as possible, no later than Tuesday, March 8^th.  If your child needs a recorder, you will also need to turn in $5 with their permission slip. If your child has a strong desire to participate, but this is a financial hardship, please contact me. Please mark these dates in your calendar now. I want to give students the individual attention that they need, therefore, I can only take up to 16 students for this group. The first 16 permission slips that are turned in will be part of the group. I look forward to working with your children and creating beautiful music together!

View this email in your browser School Food Pantry During the month of February, we are gathering food and household items for our families in need. Bring your items to the office and the Food Pantry Committee will organize and distribute. We will also need to stock the pantry on a regular basis. If you want to spearhead one of our ideas from the meeting, please do! ITEMS TO DONATE: Non-perishable Protein Items canned tuna, chicken or beans, peanut butter, dried beans or grains Non-perishable Meals or Starters mac & cheese, pasta, canned soups, stews or meals, ramen Snack Items applesauce, fruit cups, fruit leathers, granola bars, milk or juice boxes, crackers Baby Supplies formula, baby food, diapers, wipes Personal Hygiene Products toothpaste & brushes, shampoo & conditioner, combs, brushes, hair ties, soap, lotion, deodorant, tampons, pads NEWS & UPDATES Our first spring fundraiser will be a Pottery Night on March 16. More info coming soon. There was a lengthy conversation about next year's school budget. There is a budget shortfall that may mean losing up to 5 support positions next year. We need your help! We are still gathering ideas for another spring fundraiser. Join us at the next meeting or email us your ideas. More News Missed the meeting? Wed, 2/17 Our next Dine Out night is this Wednesday, February 17 at Mile High Vienna Stand at 300 Santa Fe from 5-8pm. 50% of sales will go to the PTA. We raised $113 at Maria Empanada last month! Funds support our teacher stipends. Tuesday, 3/1 The next PTA meeting is Tuesday, March 1 at 5:00pm.
