* A full change of clothes (shirt, pants, socks, underwear) in case of spills and accidents. *Please place into a ziplock bag and label with your child’s name.

Registration will take place on-line through our Annual Family Update process through your parent portal account. Simply log in to your account and follow the instructions starting July 16^th.

Staff Appreciation Week

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is May 7-11!

 

Here are a few opportunities for students and families to participate and make our staff feel valued and special:

 

·          Monday May 7: Cinco de Mayo potluck luncheon. It happens every year and staff LOVE it. Sign up online to bring a dish.

·          Tuesday May 8:  Have students bring a thank you note to their teacher(s) to show their appreciation and love. Don’t forget specials teachers and administration!

 

·          Friday May 11: Sponsor a teacher to attend a Rockies game!  For $24 teachers receive admission and concessions. They are excited to go!  Donate whatever amount of money you want. (Bring money to the front office in an envelope with the teacher’s name on it).

¿QUÉ ES ESTUDIOS INTERNACIONALES EN DCIS EN FAIRMONT? DESTACANDO LOS CUATRO DOMINIOS ¡¡MARQUE SU CALENDARIO!! Como muchos de ustedes saben, nuestros estudiantes en cada nivel de grado han estudiado diferentes cuestiones globales durante todo el año. El proyecto culminante de esto es un día de servicio en el que cada grado se asociará a una organización sin fines de lucro para hacer un proyecto relacionado con su problema. La fecha para este primer día de servicio de DCIS es el 26 de abril. ¡Los proyectos se llevarán a cabo por toda la escuela en la mañana! ¡Nos encantaría tener padres voluntarios!

Almuerzo De Bolsa:

9 de marzo: Reducir, reutilizar, reciclar- En este almuerzo de bolsa la agencia de protección ambiental (EPA) hablará sobre lo que los estudiantes pueden hacer en casa y en la escuela para ayudar a proteger nuestra tierra a través de la reducción, reutilización y reciclaje. ¡Usted también aprenderá sobre la EPA, y cómo proteger el medio ambiente!

Marcha por nuestras vidas: el sábado, 24 de marzo, hay una marcha en la capital como un llamado para un cambio en la legislación del arma. Esta marcha es en apoyo a los estudiantes de la High School secundaria de Parkland, que marcharán en Washington DC el mismo día. Puede encontrar más información en March for Our Lives-Colorado-página de Facebook (oficial) organizado por Tay Anderson. ¡Esto es una gran manera para tomar acción con sus alumnos!

 

¡LIBROS PARA QUE LOS ESTUDIANTES INVESTIGEN EL MUNDO!

When I get Older: The Story Behind Wavin’ Flag  por K’Naan y Rudy Gutierrez

En su primer libro para niños, When I Get Older, Somali-canadiense poeta, rapero, cantante y compositor K ' Naan cuenta su propia historia. Nacido en Somalia, él creció en Mogadiscio. Su abuelo fue un reconocido poeta que pasó su amor por las palabras a su nieto. Cuando la Guerra Civil somalí comenzó en 1991, k ' Naan tenía sólo trece años. Su madre tomó la decisión difícil de mover a su familia para que pudiera crecer en seguridad. Como tantos otros inmigrantes, que tuvo que hacer un lugar para sí mismo en un mundo de costumbres, ropa y lenguaje extrañas para él. Su camino fue duro: él perdió muchos amigos a la violencia. Pero el amor de k ' Naan por la música y su enorme talento, se convirtió en una manera para conectarse con su pasado, con sus compañeros de clase y eventualmente a millones de personas alrededor del mundo. WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL STUDIES AT DCIS AT FAIRMONT? HIGHLIGHTING THE FOUR DOMAINS . SAVE THE DATE!!! As many of you know, our students in each grade level have been studying different global issues throughout the year. The culminating project to this is a day of service in which each grade will pair with a nonprofit to do a service project linked to their issue. The date for this first ever DCIS day of service is April 26^th. The projects will take place school-wide in the morning! We would LOVE any parent volunteers!

March 9: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - In this brown bag lunch the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will talk about what students can do at home and at school to help protect our earth through reducing, reusing, and recycling. You will also learn about the EPA, and how they protect our environment!

March for Our Lives: On Saturday, March 24, there is a march on the capital as a call for a change in gun legislation. This march is in support of the students from Parkland High School, who will be marching on Washington DC on the same day. More information can be found on the March for Our Lives – Colorado (Official) Facebook page, hosted by Tay Anderson. This is a great way to TAKE ACTION with your students!

 

BOOKS FOR STUDENTS TO INVESTIGATE THE WORLD!

When I get Older: The Story Behind Wavin’ Flag  by K’Naan and Rudy Gutierrez

In his first book for children, When I Get Older, Somali-Canadian poet, rapper, singer, and songwriter K’NAAN tells his own story. Born in Somalia, he grew up in Mogadishu. His grandfather was a renowned poet who passed on his love of words to his grandson. When the Somali Civil War began in 1991, K’NAAN was just thirteen. His mother made the difficult decision to move her family so that they could grow up in safety.  Like so many other immigrants, he had to make a place for himself in a world of alien customs, clothes, and language. His road was a hard one: he lost many friends to violence. But K’NAAN’s love of music, and his enormous talent, became a way for him to connect with his past, with his classmates, and eventually, to millions of people around the world. Not only does K’NAAN tell a story that will inspire and encourage young readers, but he provides a brief history of the Somalian conflict. The lyrics of “Wavin’ Flag” are also included.
