NEWS FROM

The Leadership Team

Volume  4 , Edition 14

Dear DCIS at Fairmont Families,

First and foremost, I want to thank our DCIS at Fairmont Community for engaging with all of the candidates during our Meet and Greet and for providing your take on each of the candidates. I am thrilled to announce that our Assistant Principal has been selected for the upcoming school year. The decision was not an easy one. I made sure to take into account teacher feedback, parent feedback, and the characteristics that teachers and staff outlined during our brainstorming session and for those reasons I have chosen Becky McKay.

I truly believe that Becky's skill set compliments my own and that we will both be able to learn from one another. Her instructional knowledge at the elementary level and ability to communicate across lines of difference when it comes to language are two things that really distinguished her from the other candidate as well as her extensive international experience. We all have areas of growth, but I believe her strengths outshine her areas of growth. One of the things parents and teachers alike noted is the desire for a candidate that could challenge me and push my way of thinking and I know that with Becky's experience in DPS and outside of the district she is able to offer a myriad of perspectives on how we can tackle some of the challenges we face instructionally.

I am confident that the DCIS at Fairmont Community will support this decision as we continue to live our school’s core values and put Students First. I am eager to begin the planning for next year and look forward to your input as we launch into planning mode in the next few months. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to come to me.

Aside from the Assistant Principal process, the last few weeks have been incredibly busy with interviews taking place for a number of positions across the school. We were so fortunate with the caliber of candidates that applied. We are thrilled to announce that the following candidates will be joining the DCIS at Fairmont team for next year:

5th Grade: Courtney Forman formerly 5/6 grade teacher at Colegio Nueva Granada, Bogota, Colombia
