PAC Coffee

March 22, 2017

Dear DCIS at Fairmont Families,

It is hard to believe that Spring Break is just a few days away! We would love to invite you to our State of the School Parent Coffee (8:30-9:30am) and After School Snack and Chat (4:15-5:00pm) on Tuesday, April 4th. The purpose of our time together will be to talk about the great gains our school has made this year and give you a broad overview on our vision for next year.

Come learn more about our progress and how we’ve achieved it!

·        In grades K-5, overall 62% of students are reading on or above grade level which puts us 3 percentage points away from our end of the year goal with 2 months of school remaining. The district expectation for Green on this Early Literacy indicator is 65% which means we will undoubtedly meet that goal.

·        Kindergarten alone over 83% of our students are reading on grade level in March, which is an increase of over 10% from our scores in Kinder last year of 71%

·        Most incredibly, we have moved 59 students who started the year off below grade level in reading. 28 of those 59 started the year off more than a year below grade level and are on their way to catching up.

We will also be discussing:

·        Our program change from Mandarin to Spanish

·        Global Villages and the international studies piece moving forward

·        Parent engagement and feedback

·        Hiring, personnel process, and school roles

·        English Language Development support moving forward

We are so incredibly proud of the work all of our teachers, support staff, and students have done to make these incredible moves! Again, we look forward to discussing these moves and the evolution of our plan for next year with you at our Parent Coffee on April 4th from 8:30-9:30am and then in the afternoon at our Snack and Chat on April 4th from 4:15pm-5:00pm. Come with questions you may have or suggestions you may have for our team as we embark on planning for the following year!

In Partnership,
